REDCATT 8FHM 8.0" Bass-Mid Woofer 4 Ohm
The REDCATT 8FHM is designed as a linear, efficient bass-mid woofer for projects where low distortion and usable upper-range extension are important. Its 89.04 dB sensitivity, 38 Hz resonant frequency and 4 Ohm impedance make it suitable for high-quality loudspeaker builds, including hi-fi systems and studio monitor applications.
The cone construction is one of the key strengths of this driver. REDCATT uses 1k carbon fiber on both sides of a Nomex honeycomb core, creating a strong and lightweight diaphragm with an excellent stiffness-to-weight ratio. This helps push cone break-up modes to higher frequencies, extending the working range compared with conventional woofers.
The motor and suspension are built for controlled performance. A ferrite magnet, aluminum basket, 35.6 mm CCAW voice coil on a Kapton former and FEM-optimized NBR rubber surround work together with a Nomex spider for stable excursion. The driver offers 5 mm peak Xmax and 13 mm Xmech, with power handling rated at 50 W AES, 100 W continuous and 200 W peak.
For bass reflex speakers, REDCATT recommends several vented alignments. A 22 liter enclosure tuned to 44 Hz gives strong mid-bass output, while a 24 liter enclosure tuned to 40 Hz provides a balanced general-purpose response. For deeper low-frequency extension, a 24 liter enclosure tuned to 36 Hz can be used with high-pass filter protection.
