REDCATT 18XR 18" Subwoofer 4 Ohm
The REDCATT 18XR is built as a high-excursion subwoofer for professional low-frequency systems. Its XR-series design combines a strong motor, large mechanical travel, and a suspension system developed for demanding bass reproduction where conventional subwoofers quickly reach their limits.
The neodymium motor uses magnets positioned along the voice coil winding, helping deliver high force and controlled movement. A demodulation copper ring, deep copper cap technique, and unique gap venting contribute to lower distortion, improved airflow, and increased reliability. Compared with conventional woofers, the 18XR is optimized for large excursions while maintaining control.
Mechanically, the driver features a reinforced paper cone, SBR surround, and two large Nomex spiders spaced apart for improved stability. Woven-in tinsel wires and the optimized surround design help the suspension remain reliable under heavy movement. Key parameters include 17 mm Xmax, 36 mm Xmech, 22.20 T·m Bl, 300 liters Vas, and a moving mass of 402 grams.
For bass-reflex speaker cabinets, REDCATT recommends several alignments: 235 liters tuned to 24 Hz for high output and strong mid-bass, 275 liters tuned to 21 Hz for a balanced general-purpose setup, or 275 liters tuned to 20 Hz for extended low-frequency performance. High-pass filtering is recommended according to the chosen alignment to protect the driver at very low frequencies.
