Lundahl LL9226 Amorphous Core Moving Coil Input Transformer
The Lundahl LL9226 is designed for moving coil cartridge input duties in high-performance home audio systems and precision phono applications. It is based on Lundahl’s classic LL9206 and remains pin-compatible, while using a revised construction with reduced copper resistance and improved frequency-response behaviour.
Internally, the transformer uses two coils, each with one secondary winding surrounded by two primary windings. This winding structure supports excellent bandwidth and high immunity to surrounding magnetic fields, making the LL9226 a strong choice for sensitive low-level signal work in demanding audio components.
The cobalt-based uncut amorphous strip core is housed in a mu metal can for shielding. All winding ends are available on the pins, allowing several connection alternatives. Practical turns-ratio options include 1:5 for MC cartridges below 100 Ω, 1:10 for MC cartridges below 50 Ω and 1:20 for MC cartridges below 25 Ω.
Performance is wideband and controlled, with a frequency response of 10 Hz to 50 kHz within ±1 dB, and 5 Hz to 100 kHz within ±1.5 dB under the specified connection A conditions. The LL9226 measures 30 x 22.5 x 14.5 mm above the PCB, weighs 29 g, uses 2.54 mm pin spacing with 22.86 mm row spacing and has a recommended PCB hole diameter of 1.5 mm.
