Lundahl LL5402 Audio Output Transformer for Unbalanced Drive
The Lundahl LL5402 is built for line-level output stages where transformer coupling, galvanic isolation and balanced output performance are required. It is especially suited to unbalanced drive circuits and mixed feedback drive designs, making it a practical choice for high-quality amplifiers and custom audio electronics.
Its winding arrangement uses a 2 + 2 : 1 + 1 turns ratio. When primary pins 1 and 5 are connected to ground, the cold ends of the primary windings surround each secondary winding, helping to reduce the effect of capacitance between the primary and secondary sections. This makes the LL5402 a precise audio component for demanding output stages.
Performance is strong in mixed feedback applications: with a 600 Ω load, the transformer delivers a 20 Hz to 40 kHz frequency response within ±0.3 dB and 0 dB midband voltage loss. Distortion is specified at 0.1% at 50 Hz and +22 dBU, while output balance exceeds 60 dB with a low source impedance and 600 Ω load.
The LL5402 measures 43 x 28 x 21 mm above the PCB and weighs 92 g. It uses 5.08 mm pin spacing, 30.48 mm row spacing and a recommended PCB hole diameter of 1.5 mm. With 4 kV isolation between primary and secondary windings and 2 kV isolation between windings and core, it is a robust choice for builders selecting reliable amplifier accessories for line output circuitry.
