Lundahl LL1931 Amorphous Core Moving Coil Input Transformer
The Lundahl LL1931 is designed as a cost-no-object moving coil input transformer for high quality phono step-up stages. As a precision audio component, it combines an uncut amorphous cobalt core with an oversized transformer design to support wide bandwidth and low-level signal integrity.
Its dual-coil structure is made to improve immunity against external magnetic fields from nearby power supplies, motors and similar interference sources. The transformer is housed in a mu-metal can, making it suitable for sensitive home audio applications where low noise performance is essential.
The LL1931 has a turns ratio of 1 + 1 : 8 + 8 and offers multiple connection options. It can be wired in a serial-serial 1:8 configuration or in a parallel-serial 1:16 configuration, giving designers flexibility when matching moving coil cartridges to a phono preamplifier input.
Key electrical and mechanical specifications include 1.8 Ω static resistance per primary, 105 Ω static resistance per secondary, and isolation of 3 kV between windings and 1.5 kV between windings and core. The transformer measures 43 x 28 x 22 mm above the PCB, uses 5.08 mm pin spacing with 30.5 mm row spacing, has a recommended PCB hole diameter of 1.5 mm and weighs 80 g.
