        Lundahl LL1538XL Microphone Input Transformer

         

        The Lundahl LL1538XL is designed for demanding microphone input stages where low noise, shielding, and wide bandwidth are essential. As part of a professional selection of audio components, it uses a high-permeability mu-metal core and two three-section coils to keep leakage inductance very low, supporting an excellent frequency response.

         

        Compared with the LL1538, the LL1538XL uses a core that is about 45% larger, giving it greater level capability. With the primaries connected in parallel and a 200 ohm source impedance, distortion is 0.2% at +3 dBU primary level at 50 Hz, and 1% at +13 dBU primary level at 50 Hz.

         

        The transformer has a turns ratio of 1 + 1 : 5 and does not require termination for best square-wave response in a 1:5 connection with 200 ohm source impedance. Key electric measurements include a self-resonance point above 120 kHz, 4 kV isolation between windings, and 2 kV isolation between windings and shield.

         

        For practical PCB integration, the LL1538XL measures 38 x 24 x 20.5 mm above the PCB and weighs 65 g. It has 5.08 mm pin spacing, 27.94 mm row spacing, and a recommended PCB hole diameter of 1.5 mm. Each primary has a static resistance of 61 ohm, while each secondary has a static resistance of 975 ohm.
