Hypex UcD180 1x180W UcD® Class D Amplifier Module
The Hypex UcD180 is a self-contained high-performance Class D module for demanding audio builds where predictable behaviour, efficient operation and proven sound quality are essential. As one of Hypex’s established amplifier modules, it is suitable for applications ranging from public address systems to ultra-high-fidelity replay systems for studio and home use. Its UcD® topology uses a phase-shift controlled self-oscillating loop with feedback taken at the speaker output, fully passive loop control and very low radiated and conducted EMI.
The module delivers 180 W into 4 ohms at 1% THD, 120 W into 8 ohms and 100 W into 2 ohms, with a 20 Hz to 35 kHz power bandwidth and a 10 Hz to 50 kHz frequency response. Performance remains stable across different loudspeaker loads, supported by low output impedance, frequency-independent distortion behaviour and low noise. Additional key figures include 26 dB total voltage gain, 65 dB supply ripple rejection, 4 W idle losses, 10 mA standby current and up to 92% efficiency at full power.
For signal integration, the UcD180 offers a differential audio input with an onboard TL072 buffer stage, plus the option to bypass the buffer when external input circuitry is preferred. The buffered input provides 100 kΩ input impedance, while the unbuffered UcD input is 1.8 kΩ, and common-mode rejection is 75 dB across all frequencies. The input buffer gain can also be adjusted via the onboard gain-adjust footprint, making the module flexible for active speakers, monitor loudspeakers, home theatre systems, multichannel power amplifiers and professional audio equipment.
System supervision is built in, including clipping detection, DC-error output, amplifier ready signalling, overcurrent protection, overvoltage protection and short circuit protection. The amplifier runs on unregulated +/- rails with a typical +/-45 V supply voltage and supports pop-free start and stop control, including an initial power-up delay of approximately 1.5 seconds. Optional remote Kelvin loudspeaker feedback can include the loudspeaker cables in the control loop for maximum loudspeaker control, while the compact 100 g module also supports bridgable operation and compatibility with SMPS400A180 and SMPS1200A180 power supplies.
