        The Dayton Audio DC160-4 is a dependable choice for DIY audio components projects where strong low-frequency output and clear midrange are both important. As a 4 ohm bass-midwoofer, it offers alternative load possibilities and works well in compact loudspeaker designs.

         

        A treated, non-pressed paper cone combines with a rubber half-roll surround to promote smooth response and controlled cone behavior. The coated cloth dust cap, sturdy steel frame, and ferrite motor construction give this woofer the practical build quality needed for repeatable installation and reliable performance.

         

        For power handling and bass control, the DC160-4 uses an aluminum voice coil former, a vented pole piece, and a large diameter flat spider. With 60 watts RMS power handling, 88.3 dB sensitivity, 39 Hz resonance frequency, and a usable frequency range of 30 to 4,000 Hz, it is suitable for both bass and lower-midrange duties in compatible speaker systems.

         

        The driver supports sealed, vented, and transmission line enclosure designs. Typical enclosure references include 0.23 ft³ sealed for an F3 of 73 Hz, or 0.48 ft³ vented for an F3 of 45 Hz. Key parameters include 3.4 ohms Re, 0.99 mH Le at 1 kHz, 0.43 Qts, 15 liters Vas, 7.02 Tm BL, and 3.4 mm Xmax.

        I’m not quite sure yet – I’ve tried it without the filter. The sound is flat; I hope the filter will sort it out.
