Dayton Audio APA150 150W Power Amplifier

THE ONLY AMPLIFIER(S) YOU'LL EVER NEED!

Amplifiers today need to be multi-faceted to keep up with the task at hand, and versatility is the foundation upon which the Dayton Audio APA150 is built. When configured in stereo mode, amplification is provided to a pair of speakers for stereo or surround playback. Select bridge-mono mode and the APA150 is ready to power a center channel speaker, or a subwoofer/tactile transducer when used with the on-board low pass filter. Full-range line-level outputs allow for daisy chaining amplifiers for a multi-room whole house audio system or for bi-amp applications. The APA150's smaller chassis consumes less space than conventional amplifiers, making placement options virtually limitless.

BIG-AMP FEATURES PACKED INTO A SMALL-AMP CHASSIS

Key features of the APA150 include high current, discrete power transistors (used in premium amp designs), a hefty toroidal power supply transformer, low-noise forced air cooling, a fully adjustable—and defeatable—electronic 50-150 Hz low-pass filter (18 dB/octave), and complete protection against electrical shorting and thermal overload. Also included are auto-on/off, silent turn-off with no audible transient, gold plated RCA inputs/outputs, and 5-way binding posts.

CONNECTING THE APA150

-Connecting a line-level device

  1. Locate the RCA line-level output from your source device.
  2. Using RCA patch cables, connect the appropriate channel from the source output to the amplifier input.
  3. For a mono line-level signal, use the left-level input.

-Daisy-Chaining APA150s

  1. Connect the line-level input from source device as above.
  2. Connect the line-level output from first amplifier to line level input on the second amplifier.

-Using the APA150s Low-Pass Filter

  1. Ensure Low Pass-Flat switch is set to Low Pass.
  2. Connect line-level input from source device.
  3. Connect loud speakers as described below.
  4. Adjust crossover frequency until desired output is reached.

-Connecting Your Loudspeakers for Stereo Operation

  1. Ensure that the amplifier is powered down.
  2. Remove approximately 1/2" of the insulation from your speaker cables' positive and negative conductors.
  3. Loosen the speaker binding posts by turning the knobs counter-clockwise, exposing the wire insert hole.
  4. Observing polarity, insert the conductors into their appropriate binding posts and tighten the knobs down, securing the conductors in place.

-Connecting Your Loudspeakers for Bridged-Mono Operation

  1. Set the Mono-Stereo switch to Mono position.
  2. Remove approximately 1/2" of insulation from your speaker cables' positive and negative conductors.
  3. Loosen speaker binding posts by turning the knobs counter-clockwise, exposing the wire insert hole.
  4. Connect positive conductor to top left binding post.
  5. Connect negative conductor to bottom right binding post.

Specifications

Specifications for: APA150 150W Power Amplifier

  • Rated power output (RMS) The electrical power measured in watts (W) that an amplifier can output per channel, without damaging the amplifier or the output signal is çlipped'. RMS = Root Mean Square. 2 x 75 watts at 4 ohms
  • Bridged power output (RMS) The electrical power expressed in watts (W) that an amplifier can output per bridged channel (2 x stereo to 1 x mono output), without damaging the amplifier or the output signal is çlipped'. RMS = Root Mean Squeare. 1 x 150 watts at 8 ohms
  • Minimum load Shows the minimum load that an amplifier can control in ohms. A lower impedance of a speaker is not recommended if it is lower than the minimum impedance of an amplifier. An amplifier works best when the impedance of the speaker falss within the impedance range that the amplifier prescribes (for example, 4 to 8 ohms). 4
  • Signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) Shows the strength level of signal power compares to a level of noise power. Generally, higher values means better specification. >100 dB

Wirklich gute Endstufe. Wird als Endstufe am Marantz SR 7012 für die Front genutzt. Hab vorher vier andere amps getestet. Doch hier ist Preis/ Leistung extrem gut. Als SUB schon zu Schade glaube ich.

I bought 2 APA150 units and switched as mono blocks.
It's sound is really far beyond my expectation!
How is it possible that this amp can achieve such a high performance for a price that you have to count down to ten times in relation to other brands?!?!?
I can only say, highly recommended!!!

Harsh treble. The unit hums loudly when powered on, or in standby,. No improvement after 2 weeks powered up. Not recommended.

One of the Great Bargains In Affordable Hi-Fi today is the Dayton Audio APA150. The APA150 is a well constructed class A/B amplifier with a number of useful features. Among them is the inclusion of a totally passive preamplifier which allows the APA150 to be used as a stereo integrated amplifier, which produces 75 watts per channel into a 4 ohm speaker load, and 50 watts per channel into an 8 ohm speaker. The APA150 can also be used as a dedicated amplifier with a full function active preamplifier. It also has a switch for monaural use, which allows its user to bridge this amplifier so that two APA150s can be used as monoblock amplifiers, which triples the wattage of each amplifier to 150 watts per channel into an 8 ohm speaker load; giving the APA monoblock combination the ability to drive some difficult speaker loads. The APA150 can also be used in mono operation to drive the center channel of an audio visual system. The consumer should also keep in mind that the APA150 usually sells for between $125 and $280 new depending on the merchant, so it pays to shop around before buying one.

Of course, the most important issue here is how the APA150 sounds. It a word: musical. the 150 is dynamic, detailed and an all around excellent performer which faithfully honors the music.

    Highly recommended!
