Fosi Audio BOX X4 Phono Vorverstärker & Headphone verstärker

I bought the Fosi Audio X4 Phono Preamp for my secondary vinyl setup, and after extensive listening, I can easily say it has exceeded all my expectations. My Setup & Signal Chain Secondary Setup: Audio-Technica AT-LP3X fitted with an AT-VM95 cartridge, running either the bonded elliptical stylus (black AT-VM95EBK / green E) or the nude elliptical stylus (orange AT-VM95EN). Signal Path: The Fosi Audio X4 feeds into a Denon AVR-X3800H, which uses the main pre-outs into a Denon PMA-1700NE (set up as a dedicated power amplifier) to drive the main stereo speakers. Primary Reference: For reference, my primary turntable setup is an Audio-Technica AT-LP8X equipped with the Shibata stylus (AT-VM95SH / brown), connected directly to the dedicated phono stage of the PMA-1700NE. Sound Performance & Flea Market Finds I specifically chose the Fosi X4 because I wanted that rich, smooth, and characteristic tube presentation for browsing and enjoying finds from local flea markets, vinyl fairs, and second-hand bins. The X4 delivers exactly that: It introduces a warm, forgiving midrange that takes any harsh, sterile edge off older or less-than-perfect pressings. Surface noise and minor vinyl wear are softened pleasantly without sacrificing detail. Whether paired with the energetic standard elliptical stylus or the more resolving nude elliptical (EN), the preamp handles both gracefully, presenting a lively, musical, and cohesive soundstage. Practical Tips: Warm-up & Noise Floor Warm-up time: Give the vacuum tubes a few minutes to warm up properly before dropping the needle. Once the tubes reach their optimal operating temperature, the sound opens up noticeably, becoming smoother and more dimensional. Background noise / Hum: As with any phono stage, proper grounding is essential. With the ground wire connected between the AT-LP3X and the X4's ground terminal, the noise floor is effectively zero. No 50/60Hz hum, no intrusive hiss—just pure, silent black background until the stylus hits the groove. Build Quality & Verdict Right out of the box, everything arrived impeccably packaged and well-protected. The build quality surprised me right away: the chassis is compact, sturdy, and finished to a standard that easily rivals gear at twice or three times its price point. If you are looking for an affordable, hassle-free entry into genuine tube sound, need a dedicated preamp for a secondary system, or want a noticeable upgrade over the built-in phono stages in budget amplifiers and entry-level turntables, the Fosi X4 is a no-brainer. It simply makes spinning records fun. Definite recommendation!
