Another popular design by Paul Carmody, the Amiga 2-way tower kit has a small footprint but produces a big sound. This kit has become known as a boutique Hi-Fi killer. This kit is ideal for novice woodworkers, the baffle is pre-cut for the drivers, you just build the enclosure. This kit includes parts to build a single speaker: The drivers, crossover components, and damping material.

Basically, if you like the Overnight Sensations, then you'll like the Amigas. The tonal balance is similar with slightly relaxed voicing to allow for long listening sessions without fatigue. However, the quality of the drivers will definitely highlight finer details in any recording. The imaging creates a wide soundstage, as a quality monopole speaker should, with a very tight center image, and sounds seeming to appear around and behind the speakers. The bass extension should definitely surprise; with an F3 of 34 Hz, there is a good chance you can leave the subwoofer turned off for most purposes. The overall sound is big, it is a 2-way that produces like a 3-way.

The drivers for the Amiga's were chosen for their low distortion and accuracy. The Dayton Audio RS180S-8 bass-midwoofer handles frequencies below 2,000 Hz with precision and authority. For the top few octaves Paul chose the Peerless by Tymphany DX25TG59-04 1" (2.54cm) dome tweeter for its low Fs and smooth response. This kit includes nearly everything you need to build a top-notch speaker including the drivers, port, damping material, and crossover components.

Note: Cabinets are not included.

I bought all these components separately because the component pack was out of stock. Fantastic speaker and easy to build as the first DIY speaker. It needs some time to listen to the speaker before it starts to give nice bass. Good centre imaging, and a wide sound stage and I love this speaker with rock music. Nice guitars and vocals. Really pleased with these, just finished a components only build. Really enjoyed putting these together. SoundImports were really great again, with everything delivered as expected and a few queries I had sorted really quickly. The Amigas sound great, the real supprise is the bass. I have build these speakers on a components only basis. So did the cabinets myself. I have build the Overnight Sensation, Speedster, Classix 2 and these. They all sound amazing in their own right but also different. These Amiga’s have the best all round sound but can cause fatigue when compared to the others.
