      SMSL PL150 CD Player and Headphone Amplifier

       

      The SMSL PL150 combines traditional CD playback with modern audio performance. Equipped with an original Philips slot-in mechanical drive, it supports standard 8cm and 12cm CD formats including CD-R, CD-RW, and MP3 CDs. At its core is the CS43198 DAC chip, renowned for its high dynamic range and low distortion, ensuring optimal CD playback quality.

       

      Its robust internal architecture includes a second PLL circuit to significantly reduce jitter during disc reading, enhancing audio fidelity. On the output front, the PL150 features high-power headphone amplification available through both 3.5mm and 4.4mm jacks, allowing users to drive a wide range of headphones with ease.

       

      For digital connectivity, the device includes optical and coaxial digital outputs as well as RCA analog outputs. A newly designed IPS LCD display ensures clear and vibrant visibility, while full remote control support offers convenient operation.       I researched this as much as I could in readiness for it being available again in Europe and I am not disappointed. I have put it to the test with various music genres, including vinyl LP recordings to CD-R done twenty years ago, and clarity of the playback and channel separation are brilliant.
