The Softstart module is used to minimize transformer inrush currents and provide for push button control at the same time.

Hypex Softstart Module

Transformer inrush current is limited by means of a triac switching heavy-duty resistors in series with AC mains prior to relay switching. With an optional (bi-color) LED the status “On” or “Standby” can be indicated. In “Standby” the power-consumption will be less than 1.2W. The Softstart can operate with either a push button or a switch (jumper selectable). If additional thermal protection is required, a PTC-option is selectable. The Softstart can switch multiple transformers up to a total maximum of 1500VA. Maximum continuous current must not exceed 6A.

This module is designed as a toroidal transformer inrush current limiter. Although it is successfully used in combination with a SMPS, this has not been tested or approved by Hypex Electronics. As a service, in the datasheet, a connection diagram is given for the use of this module in combination with one SMPS400. Additional support on the use of this module in combination with SMPS cannot be given.

So out of all the soft start modules I have looked at purchasing the Hypex module has the best set of features for my amplifier build and is priced very fairly.

Das Modul wurde sehr schnell geliefert und funktioniert super an meinem LM3886 Dual Mono Aufbau. Schaltet zuverlässig über einen NO Taster meine beiden 300 VA Transformatoren.

Working perfect. The only thing is if I connect the Switch I need to put a relay in between the output from my processor that is NC activ after start, and the softstart is NO to be active.

I used to build my projects with this Hypex module. Perfect always. You can start with switch or oush button, include LED for ON or OFF. Good!

Not as cheap as those found on eBay, but this is a quality item. The board is good and the components are top quality. On top of that it both natively supports an LED out, and can support both latching and push switches. I have not come across the push switch support on other inrush limiter circuits, really nice touch.
