With a natural sounding 3/4" soft dome tweeter concentrically mounted in a long throw poly cone 4" woofer Dayton Audio's CX120-8 will produce extremely smooth response on and off-axis while avoiding the phase and lobing issues associated with standard 2-way designs. This driver is perfect for compact designs, portable speakers, or even custom car audio systems.

Dayton Audio CX120-8 4" Coaxial Driver with 3/4" Silk Dome Tweeter 8 Ohm

The Dayton Audio CX120-8 is a full-range coaxial loudspeaker providing high quality sound in a very compact format featuring a 4" curved linear poly cone woofer mated with a 3/4" silk dome tweeter. The poly cone woofer provides a good balance between stiffness, low mass and damping making for a very natural sounding driver with a smooth frequency response. The silk dome tweeter provides detailed and clear high frequencies with minimal distortion. In addition, the optimized tweeter placement and flaring reduces the phase issues with the woofer that is commonplace with even the BIG brand coaxes. Designed for use as a full-range in a small bookshelf speaker, an extended range (i.e. midrange/tweeter) driver in a 3-way system, or even car audio systems.

4" Woofer:

1" voice coil wound on an aluminum former for high power handling
Curved linear shaped poly cone provides a good balance between stiffness, low mass and damping making for a natural sounding driver with a smooth frequency response
Optimized rubber surround for reduced break up in the midrange band
Attractive rigid open cast frame cast frame to minimize reflections, resonances and improve air flow
High energy ceramic magnet for greater cone control and improved efficiency

Highly recommended - the chassis are used in spherical speakes cases as satellites in an active 2.1 setup.

Nice and resolving rivers. I have not noticed the IMD issues that many warn about using coaxials. Using them in a 1.6 liter sealed enclosure with a subwoofer. Imaging and separation is some of the best I have heard and the frequency response is nice and even with a simple 3 component crossover. These drivers in the right enclosure sound very "high-end".

very detailed sound from this speaker even at loud volumes. Was surprised by the clarity. Suitable for small to medium size speakers and does exceptionally well in portable projects since it eliminates the need for a midrange woofer and tweeter. So basically less components and no crossover needed. Only bad thing is that it isn’t available as a 4 ohm version.
